Preschoolers are growing into readers

Preschoolers are almost ready to read! You can further develop your preschooler's pre-reading skills by continuing to read in order to develop vocabulary, print awareness, narrative skills, letter knowledge, interest in reading and the understanding that words are made up of a number of sounds. Make reading to your preschooler child's play - play the reading games outlined in Grow Up Reading to develop skills needed to hear letter sounds and decode words.

The West Bloomfield Township Public Library has a great assortment of board books and picture books for preschoolers. We have also created a list perfect for reading to preschoolers, the list provides an impeccable assortment of picture books, board books, nursery rhymes and easy to read, colorful books perfect for your child. Visit the library for the 75 books to read to the very young list or the Counting the Days ‘til Kindergarten book list as well a nursery rhyme booklet to use at home.
