Getting Ready To Read

How to Read Aloud

Be aware of letter sounds when you read aloud. Children who are ready to learn to read possess "phonemic awareness," a consciousness that individual sounds, called phonemes, make up spoken language. Phonemic awareness helps prepare children for formal reading instruction, including phonics, which teaches the association of letters with sounds.
